UCAP provides a wide variety of services and programs to help the residents of Prince Georges County, Md. Programs range from Weatherization and Energy Assistance to an Emergency Food Pantry and Housing Assistance.
Shepherd’s Cove Emergency Shelter
UCAP has managed Shepherd’s Cove Homeless Shelter located in Prince George’s County since 2004. The shelter operates 24/7 and 365 days a year. The Shelter has the capacity to shelter 100 men, women, and children. The shelter is primarily funded through resources from the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services.The Shelter is staffed with 14 employees, Case Managers and Residential Assistants. Case Managers present the residents to the COC for housing assistance, link them to medical and mental health providers to address any immediate needs, assistance with applying for financial and medical benefits, referrals to job readiness programs, and school enrollment for the school age children. The Residential Assistants provide daily oversight in the shelter and assistance with the daily living needs of the residents. The residents of the shelter are provided with a comfortable living environment, three balanced and nutritious meals seven days a week, a free laundry facility, transportation assistance, Hygiene products, formula and diapers, and other items as needed to assist with daily living. Residents may stay up to 120 days in the shelter. Residents transitioning that express the need are provided with a care package and referred to UCAP's housing assistance and food services.
